The key piece of information relates to the residential addresses of all parents and guardians. Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday 26 February, Christian churches and schools across the world recognise the beginning of the Lenten season. Lent is a religious time period of 40 days before Easter. The purpose of Lent is to draw people’s focus to prayer, repentance, and renewal of faith. Many Christians begin Ash Wednesday by marking a Lenten calendar, praying a Lenten daily devotional, and making a Lenten sacrifice.
I encourage parents and guardians to discuss with your sons and daughters the importance of this date on the Christian calendar and further information is available by contacting the Emmanuel Lutheran Fellowship office situated on the Stephen Street Campus.
Kindest regards and blessings

Toowoomba Central Zone Swimming Wrap Up
Congratulations to the 40 Concordia students who recently competed at the Toowoomba Central Swimming Trials at Glennie Aquatics. Concordia was the convening school for the carnival this year and we had some fantastic feedback and comments passed on about the overall running and organisation of the carnival with various stakeholders, ranging from schools, parents and general public in attendance.
An impressive effort by all our athletes with several achieving new personal best times. Many of our CLC students qualified in nearly 40 events, whilst several missed out by the narrowest of margins, to represent the Toowoomba Central Zone Team that will now compete at the Darling Downs Regional Swimming Championships on Wednesday 4 March in Gatton. The Concordia team will be contributing at least one quarter of the Central Zone team from the 12 schools that competed on the day.
Great work to all involved in preparing our swimmers and top marks to those students who put in the individual effort in their training. Meg Osborne is be commended for breaking a number of records throughout the meet - very rewarding for all her hard work in training. Good luck to all the students in Gatton.
Thank you to one of our parent helpers, Mrs Hopper, for her assistance with timekeeping on the day, and also to Mrs Riehl and Mrs Lynch for their smooth management of the team on the day. Special mention also to Ben Hammett and Chloe Wilson who not only swam in their own individual races but assisted myself and other officials as “runners” doing various jobs on the day.
As always, it was fantastic to see so many parents in attendance, supporting and encouraging our awesome students in their sporting endeavours. As a representative of Concordia Sport at these events, it is always rewarding to see our students do their best and to hear the glowing feedback from the members of the community involved in such events about our competitors. What a great start to our sporting representative programs for 2020. Well done to all concerned!
Congratulations to our Toowoomba Central Zone Representatives: Ellie Denning, Ollie Dunlop, Ava Hopper, Arabella Knopke, Meg Osborne, Sofie Osborne, James Rice, Casey Rickert, Holly Vaughan and Michael Vicary–Rojas.

鶹ý’s Strategic Plan lists one of the aspirations of Learning and Teaching as “Create learning intervention programs, within the capacity of the College, to support the learning needs of all students.”
This past week, we have begun our MultiLit intervention reading groups. Under the MultiLit suite are MiniLit (Year s 1 and 2) and MacqLit (Years 3-12). The MultiLit Program is based on research and evidence. More information can be found by .
These groups of readers are supported at HSC by Mrs Emma Owen who is a trained MultiLit teaching assistant. The classroom teacher and Emma work closely together to ascertain students who would benefit from this program. MultiLit has now been running at CLC for nearly two years and we are amazed by the results. It is very exciting to see so many students beginning to see themselves as readers. If you have any questions about your student or this program, please make an appointment to see you classroom teacher.

News from HSC Kindy
Jumping for Joy in Junior Kindy!
Hello and welcome to Term 1 of Junior Kindy!
I’d like to begin by extending a very warm welcome to all of our new families. The transition from home to care can be a rather anxious period for both the children and their families, however I feel it is necessary to share that the children are all settling in to their new Junior kindy environment beautifully, especially considering the children are only three years old. Thank you for allowing us insight into what makes your little ones tick so we can develop positive relationships and hone in on their interests to make their time at kindy enjoyable, exciting and eagerly anticipated.
Over the next few weeks we will be working on familiarising the children with our daily routine and tasks. During this time, we will also be integrating some intentional teaching of colours, shapes and numbers as well as name recognition. Each week we will provide opportunities for your children to develop their independence by encouraging them to give things a go for themselves before seeking assistance from an adult. We will observe their interests and abilities from previous weeks to extend their experiences in key areas and will use this information to establish individual goals for all of our little junior kindy friends. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss these with you and gain further insight into what goals might be important to you and your child.
For all three and four year olds, the development of sense of self and others can be rather volatile. On a daily basis, we will be discussing things like personal space and positive interactions with others. We will encourage children to use their words and speak up if they’re not happy with a situation. We hope you soon hear them say “stop, I don’t like it” in times of conflict. Fingers crossed they apply their conflict resolution skills appropriately.
We look forward to sharing your child’s growth with you over the coming year and invite you to chat with us regularly to help us keep up to date.
Thank you,
Mrs Connolly, Mrs Imalka and Mrs Schurmann
Warwick Street Campus
From the Director of Campus
The last few weeks have flown by so quickly as we have settled back into our school routines. At Warwick Street Campus the students are reminded by the teachers and their peers to Be Safe, Be Respectful and to Be Learners. These words can be seen on the wall of our Resource Centre. These three phrases underpin all that we do each day at WSC, whether it be in the classroom, at lunch time play or out on the sporting fields. Everything that occurs in a school day is an opportunity for learning and as I look around the Campus I enjoy seeing the learning and the success achieved by our students.
A big congratulations to all of our swimmers who competed in the Central Zone Swimming Carnival on Wednesday. We had many swimmers from WSC who swam personal bests and some who were lucky enough to make the Central Zone team to compete at the Darling Downs trials. Well done!
Week 5
Morning Drop off Expectations
Our Campus supervision roster begins in the morning at 8am. We have had an increasing number of students being dropped off at school at 7.30am which is becoming concerning. Please do not leave your child unsupervised at school before 8am as teachers are preparing for the day and are often in meetings.
I understand that parents have commitments at work which require them to leave before 8am, so I remind you that our OSHC runs a Before School Care at Hume Street Campus. Before School Care opens at 6.30am and your children will be cared for by the OSHC staff and then transported to WSC by bus. I appreciate your support in this matter.

Year 9 Rite Journey Calling and Departure Breakfast Ceremony

On 14 February, a clear, temperate morning, the current Year 9 students and their parents travelled to Picnic Point at 4.45am in preparation to view the 5am sunrise. The Year 9 students and their parents gathered together just before the sunrise for The Calling, which was the first part of the ceremony led by me, Mr Jason Smith, Mrs Karen Rohde, Maddison, Halle, Joshua, Zaeden, Claire, Jacob and Danielle.
Students and parents then had the opportunity to find their own special space to watch the sunrise together, where they reflected and thanked each other. The sunrise was magnificent as it heralded in the start of a new day and was a great experience for the students to share with their parents or carers. Many photos were taken to cherish this spectacular moment in time.
After the sunrise, everyone gathered around the lookout at Picnic Point for the next part of the ceremony, The Departure, led by Mrs Karen Rohde and Mr Darren Pope. At the conclusion of the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a delicious breakfast cooked by Mr Adrian Wiles and Ms Wendy Bowen. It was a wonderful morning to not only mark the start of a new day, but to also mark the start of a pivotal year in the lives of the Year 9 cohort.

Student Reflections...
On Friday, the Year 9 group met at Picnic Point bright and early. Once up there we took the moment to celebrate the journey we are all on currently. We were very lucky to see the beautiful sunrise, while taking a moment to spend with our parents and share some special things. Overall, it was a great morning and the breakfast was very good! - Jayde Erbacher
I really enjoyed the ceremony of The Rite Journey experience. It was a great time to reflect on life and all that people have done for me. I was especially grateful for my parents and the love they share with me. Watching the sunrise was like starting the next chapter of my life. - Danielle Watson
The morning was quite peaceful and enjoyable. I loved talking to my parents and watching the sunrise. When I gave them the letter, it was lovely seeing them smile and tear up. The food was delicious and made the morning just that bit better. I will remember this for many days and will enjoy this for the rest of my life. – Morgan Meadows
I enjoyed waking unhealthily early and watching the sunrise. I liked connecting with my parents, it was a memorable experience. – Jack Lowis
Year 10 Dinner
On Wednesday evening, the Class of 2022 celebrated their next Rite of Passage in the Rite Journey.
Staff and students came together at Picnic Point restaurant to celebrate the beginning of their senior schooling with a semi-formal dinner. Students dressed up and had an entertaining evening enjoying each others' company with a beautiful meal and dancing.
It was an interesting moment to stop and reflect that 12 months prior, as Year 9 students, the Rite Journey started in the same spot for their departure. Our students have come so far in their physical and emotional development and we are proud of the young adults they are becoming. We hope they are proud of themselves too. They are a credit to the College and have shared so many gifts and talents and continue to work on developing many more. They help make Concordia the amazing College it is.
Picnic Point provided the perfect backdrop for some wonderful photos with friends. It never ceases to amaze the teaching staff how grown up and mature our students look out of their uniforms and in their formal attire.
Tom Gillespie and Amyleigh Murphy were our MCs for the evening and I commend them on an excellent job. It is never easy to get up and speak in front of peers but they both performed with grace and confidence.
Thank you to Mr Jason Smith, Mrs Leah Parker, Mrs Jess Balnaves, Mrs Karen Rohde and Mr Stephen Miegel for attending the dinner and celebrating with the students. A very special thank you to Mrs Judy Burgis for coming out and taking photos.

This is our major event for the year and will be held on Friday 23 May.
When the audience become diners in the ‘Faulty Towers’ restaurant, pretty much anything can happen – because 70% of the show is improvised. The fun starts as guests wait to be seated. It then hurtles along in a two-hour tour de force of gags and shambolic service as Basil, Sybil and Manuel serve a '70s-style three-course meal together with a good dollop of mayhem. Expect the unexpected!
Internationally acclaimed, the show was born in April 1997 as a loving tribute to the BBC’s much-loved TV series. Over a million people around the world have seen it since.
As of 2020, 12 teams of cast working from England and Australia tour around 20 countries a year. The show is also into its ninth year in London’s West End, where it holds TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence.”
(Interactive Theatre International – UK and Australia).
Early Bird tickets at $88 per person are available now! . You can book a table of up to 10 people or just come along with as a couple. So get your friends together and book early for two-hours of non-stop laughter! Your ticket price includes a two-hour interactive theatre show (with professional actors) and a three-course dinner.
If you have any questions or suggestions for events and fundraising opportunities for the SSC P&F committee, please email us at sscpf@concordia.qld.edu.au
Our next P&F Meeting will be held on Monday 10 March at 6.30pm in the Concordia Function Centre.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our many events.
