Boarding
Boarding News
Hello to all our Boarder Families,
The weeks are flying by and before long your children will be returning to you for Easter and Term break. What a term we have had!
I am pleased to inform you that all students have adjusted well to routines and Boarding house rules. This is the biggest hurdle that all new boarders face as first-timers in Boarding. Once they find their special place in the house, everything starts to fall into place. Homesickness for family and pets can and does create a huge emotional pull on many students, which can be very unsettling.
As a parent/grandparent myself, I understand that it can be frustrating and challenging to support your child from the end of the phone when they are upset or disappointed. Please feel confident in your rationalising, as we are very experienced and have an empathetic team who come to work every day feeling pleased and grateful to be looking after such a great group of teenagers. Our Boarding team passes on our thanks for entrusting us with your children.
Now that the settling-in period is finished, the work begins. Over the next few months, study will be one of our top priorities along with sport, as both go hand in hand. Healthy brain/healthy body. Our study sessions are coming along in leaps and bounds, and we receive daily feedback from teachers. This gives us an edge on where your child is at with assessments and assignments. With this in place, we are best equipped to support your child's academic journey.
The fun times are also a big attraction in Boarding life. Last weekend we took our boarders to the Gold Coast and the Aqua Park in Southport. What a great day we all had! Our bus ride home was a melody of songs being sung by the students, and lots of laughter - some even managing to fall asleep. Many tired and overtired students stumbled off the bus when we returned to campus. A big thanks to Mr. Andrew for once again driving us all there, Mr. Wally for giving up his Saturday to patrol the beach, in and out of the water, and Miss Gigi for braving it in the water with the students on the water obstacle course.
One of our younger students, Chelsea Prain, has shown an interest in practicing her Clarinet in boarding for us to enjoy. Well done!
Students involved in sport have been very busy this week, with training sessions before and after school, which we expect will continue in Term 2.
That’s all for this week. Take care and stay safe. Enjoy the photo gallery.
