JC NAPLAN - 2024
NAPLAN tests well be conducted throughout Australian schools during 13-22 March 2024.
Junior College Dates:
- Wednesday 13 March - Writing
- Monday 18 March - Reading and Language Conventions
- Wednesday 20 March - Numeracy
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students have already learnt through the school curriculum.
NAPLAN tests are constructed to give students an opportunity to demonstrate skills they have learnt. NAPLAN tests give you information on how your child is progressing against national standards.
Teachers have been working with students to ensure they are familiar with the test formats. Excessive preparation and discussion using the terms of NAPLAN is not useful and can lead to unnecessary anxiety.
NAPLAN test days should be treated as just another routine event on the school calendar. The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to reassure them that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program and to advise them to simply do the best they can on the day.
To help prepare your child on the day, please ensure that they have a good night’s sleep, a suitable breakfast and arrive on time at school.

Boarding
Boarding News
Hello to all our Boarder Families.
We have had a wonderful week in Boarding with some great news! Electric fans have been fitted to all the students’ rooms and air-con will be fitted into our recreation room over the next couple of weeks. This has been a slow process due to the availability of electricians in the Toowoomba area.
Tuesday night our dinner had a Hawaiian theme and many of our students were right into the spirit of the night by getting dressed up. We had a couple of movie vouchers to give away for Best Dressed, with loads of fun had by all.
Concordia hosted the Toowoomba Park run last Saturday as part of our Community Service. Five students braved the drizzly, early start to attempt the 5k run. I am pleased to say Larissa Hero and Max Manning completed the run while Jyana Foster, Ella Stephens, and Malita Tapau gave it their best shot and completed approximately 2.5k’s. It was lovely to see so many Concordia Staff and Day Students there, volunteering, participating and each doing their bit for our community.
This afternoon the newest member of our boarding team Hannah, let me know that she is an experienced florist- I quickly handed over the task to Hannah to rally some keen gardening girls to re-plant the hanging baskets. They all seemed to enjoy it and they did a fantastic job. Thank you goes to Hannah for her guidance, and to the girls for their help. Thank you to the maintenance team also for supplying the portable greenhouses to us. They will be well used over the coming months. I am sure Hannah along with the students will have some great ideas on what to plant.
On Tuesday evening, we had volleyball games against Fairholme. Our Year 9 girls played well and won 2-1, while Years 10 and Years 7 played a tough game but unfortunately didn't manage to secure a win. The Senior girls played against a strong club team and unfortunately lost.
Our boys had a great trip to Charleville and returned safely with their coaches. The Valley Junior Rugby League Junior boys came 4th, and the U15 Boys lost in the Golden Point in the Grand Final. They all had a massive weekend!
Henry Thorne started his work experience at McDonald's on Tuesday evening. As soon as Henry saw me, he knew I'd want to get a photo. Sorry, Henry, but it's one for Mum.
Woolworths delivered care packages to students this week, and some very excited and satisfied students received them. Thanks to all the parents who made it possible.
This Saturday, we are all going to the Gold Coast for some shopping and a trip to the Aqua Park. Check this space next week for pictures.
That's all for this week. Till next week take care and look after each other.
Mrs Maureen Taurima and Mr Andrew Bull
