For Time Being, Metheny Just The Guitar Player

By Curtis Ross of The Tampa Tribune, published: March 28, 2002

To hear Pat Metheny describe it, a tour is akin to a well-earned vacation.

"Going on the road and doing gigs is the icing on the cake," Metheny says, calling from Oakland, Calif., before a recent show there.

"I work so hard to get to the point of going out on the road," Metheny says, listing his many roles involved in recording a new album.

"I spend a lot of time putting the band together, dealing with the artwork," he says, "I'm just enjoying being the guitar player instead of a composer or producer."
