The Week Ahead - Term 4, Week 4
Monday 23 October - Friday 27 October 2023
From the Head of College
The love between grandparents and their grandchildren is something to treasure and celebrate, and if your children are anything like mine, no one ever cooks as well as their grandparents, let’s you eat whatever you want whenever you want and believes that you are truly flawless! Grandparents are definitely something to celebrate.
Today we celebrated the last of our Concordia Grandparents’ Days at Warwick Street Campus. Our special guests joined us for a “Then and Now” themed Chapel Service followed by games and activities on the top oval. The shared Morning Tea between grandparents and grandchildren is always a highlight of the morning and a special thank you needs to go to the WSC parents for supplying the endless treats.
I would like to acknowledge all our Concordia grandparents for the hard work, commitment, faith and love that you sow into the lives of your grandchildren, often doing school drop offs and pick ups, helping with homework, attending outings and even helping in our classrooms. We are blessed to have you as part of our community. As I mentioned in my article last week, we held our annual Orientation Day across all three campuses on Monday. Our new students and current students all transitioned to their 2024 year level and got a taste for what lies ahead next year. The 2024 Junior College Prep students and the Stephen Street 2024 Year 7 students will have their final opportunity to visit us over the coming weeks. Our new Preps are invited to attend two Groovy Moves sessions at their respective campus over the next two weeks and our incoming Year 7 students will be offered one more Connect session on 9 November. We look forward to continuing this transition process as our new students work to familiarise themselves with their 2024 surroundings.
Next week our Year 12 students will begin their external exam period. We wish them all the best as they enter the final part of their schooling at Concordia.
Blessings for the week ahead

Darling Downs Athletics Representatives
At the end of last week Chloe Denning (year 11), Alex Roberts (year 9), Zoe Pietsch (year 9) and Evie Yeatman (year 8) represented the Darling Downs at the Queensland School Athletics, State Championships. After some scheduling hiccups, Chloe recorded an impressive 6th place finish in the 800m. Alex and Zoe, left Googa to compete, which had them out of their normal routine of training, diet and sleep. Despite this they both still managed impressive results, including Zoe running a season best time in the 800m and a 12th place in both the 400m and 800m events. Evie Yeatman came ready for her first appearance at the State Championships, qualifying for the Semi-final and the Final of the 100m with a blistering 12.99 carnival best time. She also competed in the Javelin finishing comfortably in the top 20. Some fantastic results for all our athletes, well done!

Staff vs Students Pink Stumps Day
WHEN: Lunchtime, Week 6 – Wednesday November 8th
WHERE: CSI Oval
We will be hosting a Staff vs Students Pink Stumps Day because no one should go through breast cancer without the care of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse. McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families affected by breast cancer by providing invaluable physical, psychological, and emotional support from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.
All funds raised go towards helping the McGrath Foundation reach their goal of 250 nurses by 2025, to work towards ensuring no one misses out on care. So, wear something Pink, buy a Pink snow cone and watch the Staff and students do battle on the pitch, all in support of a worthy cause.
If you would like to donate prior, please visit or scan one of the QR codes on a poster around school, and search for Concordia:

Boarding
Boarding News
This week has been busy yet very enjoyable. We invited our 2024 boarding students back into boarding for yet another great weekend and Orientation Day on Monday. All students were happy and slotted in with ease, and our current boarders were great hosts. What a lovely group of teenagers.
Unfortunately, due to low numbers we had to postpone our Pool Disco, but we will reschedule for early next year. We did however have a great time at the pool on the weekend. We managed to rope in the Sport Co Ordinator Joshua and his lovely wife Brit (both have Bronze Medallions) to be lifeguards and the kids had a great swim and the opportunity to dive-bomb down the deep end. I got wet, after a dive-bomb by a couple of new boys from Cherbourg...umm I know who you are!!! I told them to watch out I will get them back. It was only a bit of water but lots of fun and laughter.
Andrew and the team took the students for a couple of games of Ten Pin Bowling, and a trip to McDonald’s. On Sunday, we had Church and a BBQ prepared by Sam and Andrew.
Last week I had the privilege of taking Evie Yeatman to the QCAS in Brisbane for the Track and Field Carnival. Evie came 5th in both her final events. A fantastic result Evie!
The Boys Rugby Team came away with two wins last night against Downlands and Grammar, and then our Boys 5-a-side Netball followed it up with a win against Harristown and TASS. Great works Guys.
Nurse Libby has been busy this week attending to students with tummy bugs and sore throats, happy to report they are all on the mend.
This weekend we are off to the Crow's Nest Rodeo – out with the Hats and Boots! Sunday we will go shopping at Grand Central.
Hope you enjoy our photo gallery this week.
Till next week.
