Future Foundation – 2021/22 Annual Giving Appeal

In the coming week, the Directors of the Â鶹´«Ă˝ Future Foundation and College Council will be launching the 2021/22 Â鶹´«Ă˝ Annual Giving Appeal. The Foundation has two key focal points; firstly, to support students to attend the College through scholarship and secondly, to support the future building Masterplan through directed tax-deductible gifts.

In the last week, the Foundation has distributed the first scholarship funds. An anonymous donor from outside of the immediate College community gave a significant gift to support the education of a student, and this is the start of several additional scholarships to be distributed in the years ahead. Gifts to the Future Foundation Scholarship Fund are tax deductible and details outlining how to contribute to this fund will be available as the Annual Giving campaign rolls out this week.

#CupRescue Schools Program

The College has joined the #CUPRESCUE Schools Program with 7-Eleven Rangeville. Over 1 billion cups end up in landfill each year because they’re lined with plastic and need to be processed separately to be recycled. Together with Simply Cups, 7-Eleven is leading the cup recycling revolution in Australia so that takeaway cups can be collected, processed and recycled.

Cup recycling units will be available at each campus. For more information, .

Kokoda Challenge Fundraising

The Kokoda Challenge will be held in the Gold Coast hinterland (Mudgeeraba) on the weekend of 17 and 18 July 2021. Students and support crews are tested both mentally and physically throughout this gruelling trek, but the achievement is well worth it and will never be forgotten.

There is a fundraising component to the challenge which requires that the students raise a minimum of $650 per team to go to the Kokoda Challenge youth program for under privileged youth. If you would like to make a donation to support our students please head to the links below.

From the Director

It is with sadness that I have received Emma Owen’s resignation this week. Her husband has begun a job in Brisbane and Emma will be relocating to Brisbane as well. Yes, I did try to get her to drive backwards and forwards each day but to no avail. Emma’s final date is unknown at this point, as it depends on the sale of her house. In the meantime, we will be advertising for a teaching and learning assistant so that our MiniLit program will continue. We do wish Emma all the very best with her move. She has been a huge blessing to us, and we will miss her dearly.

Warwick Street Campus

From the Director

Students at WSC are focusing on service to others over the coming weeks. Through our service learning we are encouraging the students to understand the needs in the community around us and how we can work to support these needs. This week our focus is on aged care residents and how we can let them know that we are thinking of them. To do this, the students have been creating cards and bookmarks with their buddies to send to aged care communities. It is important for us all to remember that you are never too young or old to make a difference in someone’s life. I am sure these items will certainly make a difference to many people.

Stephen Street Campus

From the Director of Campus

Last night, Concordia hosted the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) Annual Dinner on the Downs in our Stephen Street Campus Function Centre. All sectors including University, Catholic, Independent and State Education were well represented at the dinner and appreciated the opportunity to hear Adaire Donaldson speaking on the very important topic of consent, rape, parties, social media and the law. The strong takeaways from the evening was the continuing need for families, schools and communities to educate and work with our young people in this space.

On Tuesday, our athletics team heads down to Scots PGC College, Warwick to participate in the QCIS Cross Country Carnival. We wish our athletes all the best as they test themselves on this challenging course.

Boarding

Boarding News

With the sunshine streaming through my window, I am reflecting over the past week and anticipating the next one. A slight touch of a black frost likeness, without the frost, is the way I would describe our morning. Each day has been filled with sunshine. Great weather reflects on how we are all feeling and especially in a boarding environment, it tends to set the mood.

Well done to all those who have continued to show commitment by attending all external sporting activities especially in this cold weather.

Welcome from the Leadership Team
