Community News
It is an ancient practice of the church to use up rich foods and fats on the day before Ash Wednesday (also called Shrove Tuesday). Ash Wednesday marks the start of the period of Lent, the preparation time for Easter, which traditionally has been a sombre time, focussed on the suffering of Christ for our sins and wrongs. It is a time of reflection, repentance and confession. The practice of fasting, especially abstaining from rich foods, is a physical reminder of the serious nature of this time.
At Concordia we have traditionally marked Shrove Tuesday with pancakes, provided for our students. At SSC the Faith and Service captains lead this, and the pancakes were provided for free.
This year we have been asked by ALWS to use this opportunity to remember and help the children of Ukraine, who continue to suffer from the war caused by the Russian invasion.
So, we are asking our community to bring a gold coin donation for their pancake this year. It will be collected in class on the primary campuses and in front of the Open Door at SSC where the pancakes are distributed at recess on Tuesday 13/2. It would be great if you could find it in your heart to support this cause. Note the flyer below. Thank you. God bless, Pastor Thomas.

Music News
Sam Lawrence, our Instrumental Captain has been awarded his Associate Diploma in Flute. This is one of the most advanced performance awards presented. They follow on from our grade and certificate exams, taking musicians up to a professional standard of performance and musical understanding. What an outstanding achievement to make while still in school!
The Associate Diploma is awarded to candidates who show a strong technical command of their instrument which allows them to perform their pieces with imagination and appropriate stylistic awareness. The repertoire equivalent to this level is of a 1st or 2nd-year recital performance of a Bachelor of Music program and can include standard concert sonatas and concerti, concert pieces, and advanced etudes where a wider expansion of range and tempi are explored.

Boarding News
Hello to all our families near and far.
Our boarder orientation and team building camp was a huge success. Everyone experienced new activities like Canoeing, rock climbing, the flying fox, cooking, fishing, and swimming. There was never a dull moment. All of our students were extremely well-behaved. The food was great. A huge thanks to our spectacular staff who gave up their time to supervise our students. A special mention to Nurse Libby who also came along. Nurse Libby, your medical expertise was in demand at times, and you comforted many and reminded everyone about sunblock. Thank you!
Boarder Captains Kerri and Khan did a great job in mentoring the younger students and supporting the staff. The purpose of our camp was to learn something about each other, build relationships and simply be happy young teenagers. I hope you enjoy the photos in our gallery.
SPORTS
Four of our girls attended the Darlin Downs Netball trials at Downlands where 65 young netball lovers trailed for selection. The skill of these girls was extremely high. Evie Yeatman has been selected to trail again next week. Congratulations! Well done to Harriet, Johanna and Larissa who gave it their best.
Futsal has also commenced for the Boys. Tonight, our Volleyballers came home winners, Johanna with Player of the Match, a very impressive performance. Pastor Thomas is super proud.
I have submitted all the Abstudy travel for EOT 1 and the beginning of Term 2. If you have any changes, please let me know by week 5. All students who are eligible for travel will depart the college on Thursday 28th March.
That’s all for this week.
Hope you all enjoy looking at the photo gallery this week.
