Friday Inter-School Sport - Term 1
Last Friday saw the culmination of our primary sports fixtures for Term 1, in which we participated in Girl's Touch football, Mixed Tennis, and Boys' AFL. Our Concordia teams performed exceptionally well, in this new format trialed, which saw our teams compete over 4 weeks playing two games each day. Our Concordia students demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship each week, coming away with some great results and improving each week with their skills and newfound knowledge of these team sports.
Many thanks to everyone who helped in some way this term, providing opportunity for our students to have a game of their chosen sport. From all reports and watching the students each week, you can be assured some great memories were made along the way. I would like to make a special mention of our team of coaches Mr Paul Baker, Mr John Trappett, Mrs Libby Scouller and Mrs Cathryn Owen who assisted. I loved the feedback and game recounts from both staff and students each week. A big thank you to the people behind the scenes such as our administration staff and bus drivers who make sure students get to where they need to be each week on time. Your flexibility is greatly appreciated.
Next term there is no Friday Inter-School Sport, instead our focus will shift to Inter-House Track and Field on Friday afternoons along with preparation for the annual Ball Games Carnival which will be held late in Term 2.
Representative News
Congratulations to Thomas Richards and Emily Gadsby who will be competing at the State Swimming Titles in Brisbane. This will be a fantastic experience for these young swimmers, representing both Darling Downs and Concordia at this meet. Good luck!
Congratulations also to William Spoelder, Emmett Merretz, and Thomas Richards for their selection in recent Darling Downs teams in Orienteering to compete at the State Titles in Term 2.
Track and Field News
Our Junior Campus Discus pre-event trials have started this week in preparation for the Track and Field Carnival early in Term 2. Discus should be finished in Week 1. The results will go towards cumulative points for their houses on Track and Field Day. Full credit to all our students for their efforts in these trials, setting the scene for some fantastic competition on carnival day in all other events.
Our 800m pre-carnival events (8-12 Yrs) will also be run on Friday Term 2 Week 3 at SSC, I encourage students to keep up their training over the holidays for this event. Times TBA!
Sporting Schools Programs
This term Concordia was once again successful in gaining funding to run two programs across our campuses, AFL and Netball. These programs are always well received by our students and are delivered by development staff from these sports. These six-week programs focus on grassroots development and introductory-type skills and games to give participants a “taste” of the sport while providing pathways for future involvement for our junior players if they choose this option.
Inter-House and Central Zone Cross Country
Our Inter-House Cross Country Carnival is to be held at each campus next Wednesday. This has been advertised in The Week Ahead with the program attached. Our Junior College students have been training for this event over the past four weeks, with encouraging numbers turning up each week before school to prepare themselves. Well done!
From our Inter-House Carnival, the Concordia 10-12 Yrs team will be selected to compete at the Central Zone Cross Country Titles in Week 2 next term at Kearney Springs Reserve. Selected students will be sent information regarding this day along with training times and days to prepare themselves in “putting their best foot forward” for this event. I encourage all students that are selected in the (10-12 Yrs 1st 6 runners), to continue with their training for this event over the holidays.

Boarding
Boarding News
Hi to all our Concordia boarding families.
This week has ended on a high note with our Netball girls coming 4th in the Laura Gietz Netball tournament that was held at Glennie. The girls played so well and gave it their all.
Our College's volleyball team has brought home the gold medal for the second consecutive year, and we couldn't be prouder. We owe a great deal of thanks to Paster Thomas, who has been an incredible mentor, coach, and supporter of the girls. All of the team members have shown tremendous commitment throughout the season, and we're thrilled that Kara and Evie were recognised as the most valuable players with trophies and medals.
Our Girls Rugby 9's event was a great success, and we're grateful to the parents who were able to come out and support us. The boys' game will take place on Monday during week 10.
For parents of students who receive Abstudy travel, please check your email for travel itineraries.
Looking ahead to Term 2, we kindly ask that all students bring their Student ID with them upon returning. This is a requirement for anyone flying, and without it, they may not be able to board their flight.
Girls are required to have stockings as part of their formal uniform. Please purchase at least two pairs (40-70 denier, not ribbed) before returning. Boys must wear long grey pants, and shorts are not permitted.
Please note that under "Boarder requirements" in the Boarder handbook, each student is to bring a small black shoe polish kit and soap powder/liquid. It is not the responsibility of the boarding house to supply these items. Please ensure that your child's clothing is clearly marked for easy identification.
Finally, we recommend that everyone bring warm clothes and a jacket, as the weather in Toowoomba can be quite cold.
Take care and stay safe until next week, and we hope you enjoy the photo gallery.
